Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s new Snazzy Socks

Jul 18, 2014
Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s new Snazzy Socks were on sale for the first time on Sunday versus Yorkshire; and over 100 pairs have already been sold, raising £520 for the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation.

Snazzy socks

The Snazzy Socks have been produced in partnership with Briggs of Burton Plc as a dedication to Keith Poynton. Keith was a Director of Briggs with a career spanning 42 years. He had started as an apprentice on the manufacturing shop floor and is remembered fondly by everyone at the company.

All proceeds raised will go to the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1155801) which is a registered charity that delivers cricket programmes in addition to wider, more diverse community projects that benefit health, education and social inclusion across Derbyshire.

Keith Poynton was renowned for his colourful socks and the ‘Stripes and Brights’ campaign was inspired by Briggs of Burton CEO, Gareth Cure, following the success of Keith’s memorial event in the marquee and Snazzy Socks Sunday, which had raised over £3,000 for a Game Ready Machine to assist in player rehabilitation.

Snazzy Socks will be available from the Club Shop, in the Gateway Centre at The 3aaa County Ground, and online at derbyshireccc.com.

Chief Executive Simon Storey said: “Cricket in Derbyshire was a passion for Keith and we’re delighted that Briggs of Burton have been inspired to help local cricket in his memory in such a special way.

“A number of people have commented that the Snazzy Socks make a perfect birthday present or Christmas gift so we’re expecting a good response. They’re available, while stock lasts, for £5 in the Club Shop and online, in aid of the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation, the family’s chosen charity.”

“The family were so proud to see hundreds of snazzy socks on display on that first Sunday of the season. It was great to see so many supporters pay their respects in such a positive way.”

Briggs’ Gareth Cure said: “I know Keith would have loved these socks and I would not be surprised if this is the start of a long standing tradition at the Club. I look forward to them selling out quickly and seeing the Foundation using the proceeds to develop cricket in Derbyshire.”
